The Sacrament of Matrimony
The liturgy of the Sacrament of Marriage is full of meaningful symbols and blessings. Recognizing this sacrament as a divine calling is more important than considering its social benefits. The Church teaches that marriage is “a special sacrament” for “mutual and lasting fidelity” and “mutual help and service” between a baptized man and woman in a lifelong partnership of total self-giving love. Marriage is naturally ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children, so that in Christ, a couple becomes “no longer two, but one flesh” (Matt. 19ff).[1][2]
